Peter Chapman Poetry

mean poems

i could be hosting something
i may look okay
but something's there
and i don't mean poems

i've had it easy
broke an ankle once, leaving a party
on a Bonneville TT to get my music
sat out Vietnam

wars, bad illness, the ridiculous archness
of annoyance, that's not even in the picture
when it's learned i live on a boat
and write not even fish bite

this worries me, i'm right
to be concerned, the burning
when everything's been so good
i feel i better get going

and you know what?

i'm looking at Sam Donaldson on t.v.,
the gray in that S-curve hairpiece?

wonderful!

my cure shall be simple and longlasting
